What is Industrial Hemp?

What is Industrial Hemp?

One Plant. Thousands of uses.

Industrial Hemp is a strain of the Cannabis sativa plant that is grown specifically to produce industrial hemp-derived products such as textiles, cloth, paint, bio-fuel, paper, and more.

Hemp and Marijuana come from the same plant species, but are genetically different. Hemp contains less THC (the psychoactive component in marijuana) and more CBD (cannabidoil).  In North America, hemp must contain less than 0.3% to be considered legal.

The most popular use of the CBD cannabinoid is in the nutraceutical market. Many claim that CBD can help treat depression, anxiety, Alzheimer’s, epilepsy, acne, inflammation, and chronic pain. Studies are ongoing with promising results.

Biofuel Made From Industrial Hemp

6. Bio-Fuel:

Hemp can be made it to two types of fuel; biodiesel and ethanol/methanol.

Hemp Biodiesel is made from pressed hemp seeds. The resulting oil can fuel diesel engines with less pollution than petroleum diesel.

Ethanol/Methanol is made from fermenting the hemp stalk using gasification.  This more sustainable fuel can be grown on a scale that could reduce/eliminate our dependence on oil.

These are just a few of the amazing uses of the hemp plant. As more states finalize programs, new and innovative uses of hemp are sure to follow.
